1. Protecting the green belt
Protecting the greenbelt and the local environment, to secure our quality and way of life
- Fighting for local planning decisions led by the community, not the interests of developers
- Working to ensure new houses are matched by appropriate investment in local infrastructure
- Securing changes to national planning rules to meet the needs of Tandridge and Horley
- Resisting speculative planning proposals that are inappropriate for our area
- Protecting our environment and preserving our natural heritage for the next generation to enjoy
2. Better health and care services
Excellent health services are vital, and while East Surrey Hospital and our local CCG are working hard to meet this challenge, I will fight to ensure fairer funding so that our local health services can deliver high quality care, including increased support for those suffering with dementia.
3. Reducing Aircraft Noise
Working to reduce aircraft overflying of Horley and Outwood with local residents by sending a clear message that Route 4 flight noise must be reduced wherever possible using all available measures.
Launched a petition calling for action to reduce Route 3 aircraft noise over Nutfield and have recently launched a petition to support this initiative. You can sign the petition here http://bit.ly/2kvijiy
4. Southern Rail
Commuting on Southern Rail trains is intolerable and causing continued misery. I have led meetings in Parliament with Chris Gibb, the man charged with finding solutions on the line and have met with Chris Grayling as well as raising the issue with the Prime Minister to personally highlight the problems faced. It is clear that the Unions have to take much of the blame for the problems but Govia are also not without fault. This is a vital priority issue for thousands of local residents.
Small businesses make a big difference, so supporting them is vital. I have campaigned for free on-street car parking, to create 100 local apprenticeships, and financial support for our businesses. I will continue to work to ensure that we take advantage of the opportunities to improve our local area, especially through important regeneration projects like the plans for new investment on the Rose and Young site in Caterham and Gasholder in Oxted.
Excessive HGV movements along the A25 are a blight on the lives of residents. Recently worked with excellent local campaigners. SORE to help stop the planned DPD super depot at the Moorhouse Tiles site. I have been clear that the depot plans were unsustainable and would only exacerbate the already stretched traffic problems on the A25.
