Sam's Snapshot

The East Surrey constituency covers the easternmost section of Surrey, bordering Kent, and includes the small towns of Caterham, Oxted and Warlingham.

East Surrey has a primarily rural, pastural character. Development has been limited to narrow valleys and established upland settlements by the North Downs; and much of the area is covered with wooded hillsides and rolling arable land.

Godstone

Godstone lies south of the North Downs and junction 6 of the M25. The village developed at the point where the important Guildford to Maidstone and London to Eastbourne routes met. Godstone Green, complete with duck pond, is in the centre of the village. It is a much enjoyed and attractive open space, edged with trees and framed by historic buildings on all sides. This area has been designated a conservation area.

The Bay Ponds nature reserve, situated close to the heart of the village, is a particularly tranquil wetland area which may be visited on open days or by request. It is maintained by volunteers from the Surrey Wildlife Trust.

South Godstone lies approximately three miles south of Godstone and is a more recent settlement, dating from the mid-Victorian"railway age", when the Tonbridge line was constructed. It developed around Godstone Station which is still well used by commuters to London, Crawley and Gatwick via Redhill.
