Oxted Quarry Permit

Today, I met with the Environment Agency to discuss the increase of HGVs on Chalkpit Lane resulting from the revised permit for the Quarry. The EA confirmed their hands are tied by legislation: they cannot take account of traffic movements in their deliberations or to consult unless the site is designated one of High Public Interest. Pleased to report that as a result of the meeting this morning the site is considered as such, but cannot be applied retrospectively. I’m also writing to the Planning Minister to request a change to Planning Guidance to ensure that in future, Environment Agency Waste Permits, cannot be issued without considering traffic and wider environmental impact. Next meeting on CHALKPIT will be with Surrey County Council. Thanks to Councillors David Weightman and Cameron McIntosh for their input and the United we were able to present to the Environment Agency.
