Yesterday, Conservative MPs affected by the Southern strikes had constructive talks with Chris Grayling to discuss ways to tackle the crippling Union actions.
I welcome today’s talks between ASLEF, the driver’s Union and Southern Rail to discuss a way forward. Until now ASLEF has refused to negotiate, so this is a positive step forward. The two sides will meet under the auspices of ACAS, the arbitration service.
Passengers are suffering misery, with the strikes seriously risking the livelihoods for thousands. I have urged Chris Grayling to look at all possible options to bring an immediate end to this damaging strike and leave nothing off the table.
I will continue to keep you informed of further updates as the talks develop.
