Supreme Court ruling is big boost for Tandridge District Council’s approach to planning

Very much welcome today’s ruling by the Supreme Court against Oxted Residential Ltd, and in favour of Tandridge District Council. Importantly this ruling highlights that the Council’s approach to planning is the right one.

This result also vindicates the Council’s view that it is essential to put in place policies which protect the character of the district’s towns and restrict inappropriate development in the Green Belt, whilst also ensuring housing developers pay towards the infrastructure costs on new developments. 

Local planning decisions can and should be made in the interests of the local community, with building of necessary infrastructure being at the heart of planning decisions.
