An amazing honour to ensure Eric Lloyd, a wounded D-Day veteran and Oxted resident received his Legion d’Honneur medal in recognition of his brave service during the Liberation of France in 1944.
Eric wasn’t able to attend the ceremony in person so I had the privilege of giving him the medal personally at Greathed Manor Nursing Home in Lingfield. It is nice to know his sacrifice during the war has been recognised with the highest possible French military honour. He is one of the few living survivors from East Surrey to have fought in the landings. We owe them a debt of gratitude.
