17th August – Sam today welcomes the excellent employment figures both in East Surrey and across the UK. In East Surrey, unemployment is down from the same time last year and has also fallen from last month. Youth employment received a particular boost, with 25 less claimants aged 16-24 then the same time one year ago.
In total, the unemployment rate in East Surrey is 0.7%, significantly lower than the national average. Nationally, the number of people in work is at a record high, at 74.5%, with the jobless total now at its lowest level for eight years.
Sam said “These are excellent figures and I would like to congratulate the businesses and job creators who have helped move employment up to record levels. I am also delighted that the unemployment rate is down and at 0.7%, is significantly lower than the national average. The job is now to build on this success and create more opportunities for people across East Surrey.”
