In introducing the carrier bag charge last year, the Government set out that the money raised by large retailers should be used to support good causes. I am pleased that Tesco have now launched the second round of their Bags of Help scheme, which provides grants of up to £12,000 to projects nominated by the public.
The first round of funding has already allocated a total of £70,000 to six local projects in East Surrey including Skaterham, the Grange Meadow Project in Bletchingley, Young Epilepsy’s Wetland Sensory Walk in Lingfield, and Horley Community Pre-school’s “rising from the ashes” project to renovate the garden and outside space after the fire last year at Strawson Hall.
The deadline for applications for the second round is 3rd June – projects seeking funding can apply and find out more here: http://www.groundwork.org.uk/Sites/tescocommunityscheme
Customer voting on projects will take place in Tesco stores from October 2016.
