I share the concerns of residents in Hamsey Green who have contacted me about the revised application for a Lidl store at the junction of Limpsfield Road and Tithepit Shaw Lane. The most compelling reasons against the development are as follows:
1. The volume of traffic generated opposite a primary school and en route to a secondary school would be a significant risk at the beginning and end of the school day. Cars are parked on both sides of this very busy, narrow local road and sight lines are obscured.
2. A previous planning application was rightly rejected on the grounds of safety, and it is clear that the revised proposal does not have the support of the local community.
3. There are already several convenience stores to serve residents needs in Warlingham and Hamsey Green such as Sainsbury’s, Londis & Co-op.
I have made representations to Croydon Council on this basis, and hope that the concerns of residents will be given full and proper consideration.
