Safer Internet Day

Why I am supporting Safer Internet Day:

Today (9th Feb) is Safer Internet Day, a key date in the campaign to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

The internet presents so many great opportunities for our children, but also serious risks, from fraud to cyberbullying. It is critical to empower children with skills they need to stay safe and act responsibly online. However, nearly half of parents feel they know less about the internet than their children, so it is more important than ever that high-quality information is shared widely.

Last month I arranged an assembly at St Mary’s School in Oxted as part of the Google/Parent Zone Internet Legends programme. This is a fantastic campaign that is well targeted for primary school age children, and today the resources for parents and schools have been published online at:https://www.google.co.uk/…/en/safetycenter/families/legends/
