I am pleased that Surrey County Council have opted to refresh their strategy on Sure Start, and will not proceed with any consultations that threaten the future of our Sure Start centres.
Ensuring we have the right support in place for families in those first few years is vital. I have shared the concerns of families, including those in Hurst Green, for whom the local Sure Start Centre is an important resource. Having discussed this issue with senior leadership at Surrey County Council last Friday I welcome the Council’s revised approach, which will include a fresh assessment of the Sure Start Children’s Centre role in its early years offer, as they seek to improve outcomes for children and families.
As the Minister responsible for Early Years’ Education, I look forward to continuing to work with Surrey to deliver the best possible provision for local families.
