Lord Howe announces his retirement from the House of Lords

Earlier this week, Geoffrey Howe, the Rt Hon Lord Howe of Aberavon, announced his retirement from the House of Lords.

Lord Howe was a fantastic MP for East Surrey during the 18 years (1974-1992) he held the position, and it has been a huge honour to follow in his footsteps. Moreover, as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary, and an eminent parliamentarian for the last fifty years, his contribution to public life and the Government of Britain cannot be understated, and his expertise will be sorely missed.

I would like to congratulate Geoffrey for his achievements and wish him all the best in his retirement.
