Planning Power to the People

Friday saw me dropping in on the Head of Planning at Tandridge District Council, Bob Evans, to discuss the impact of the Government’s recent announcement that councils and communities would now be given new powers to prevent the destructive practice of ‘garden grabbing’ and would be freed up to decide what types of homes are suitable for their area. It was a productive chat with Bob about the immediate impact of these new powers for Local Authorities. I believe that this signals the beginning of local people being able to take control of their environment – including housing needs – for the good of the community. In preparation for my meeting with the Caterham Community Partnership later this month, we also discussed the future of the Rose and Young site in Caterham.
